I don’t know if you all know…I know some of you know…that I won’t be at faire this year. It is because of a great opportunity that I missing the season. I have been offered a nursing externship at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Not only have I been offered the externship but I’ve been offered the CCU (critical care unit) which is something that is not usually offered to externs. This is a paid opportunity…hurray income…but more importantly a great learning opportunity…and a great resume booster…not to mention a good check on a graduate school application. My schedule has not been given to me, but I’ve been told that I will have a rotating schedule of nights, P.M’s, possible A.M.’s, weekends and any holidays. I’ve had my physical and received my medical clearance. I have an appointment with human resources in a few weeks to go over all the new employee stuffs. Gabrielle and I will have to play things by ear if a chance arises to visit Bristol, but I know the program is demanding and typically leads to a regular job at the end of the externship which lasts 10 weeks, so I haven’t the foggiest idea if we will get a visit. We will miss ya….Karl
